When your nails are inconsistent and home filing is not fixing it

You know which nail does not match the others.

It is usually the index finger or the pinky. You have filed it a dozen times and it comes out slightly different every time. Home filing is approximate work. You are working blind on your own hands with tools that are not designed for precision shaping. The result is nails that look fine individually but inconsistent as a set. For nail polish to look intentional, the shapes have to be consistent.

The other issue is not knowing what shape actually suits your hands. Almond and coffin are everywhere right now on social media. They look incredible on certain hand types. On other hand types, they elongate the fingers in a way that is not flattering, or they do not hold up with a shorter natural nail bed. The shapes that photograph well on someone else may not be the shapes that look best on your hands specifically.

That requires an honest assessment. Not just filing to a shape someone else asked for.

The right shape for your hands, done right

Fifteen minutes. Walk in with uneven nails, walk out with a consistent shape.

When you sit down, your nail technician looks at your hands. Finger length, nail bed width, current nail length, and the condition of the free edge. From there, a recommendation. You can take it or tell us what you want. Either way, we confirm the shape before we start and we do not change it halfway through.

Almond

Tapered sides meeting at a rounded point. Elongates the fingers naturally. Works best with medium to longer nail lengths. One of the most universally flattering shapes if the nail bed has enough width to support the taper.

Coffin / Ballerina

Tapered sides with a flat, squared tip. The current dominant trend. Requires more nail length to execute properly. On shorter nails, it can read as squared without the drama. On longer nails, it is one of the most photogenic shapes available.

Square

Straight sides, flat top, sharp corners. Clean, classic, professional. Works at any nail length. The most maintenance-friendly shape because corners are easy to even out between appointments. Still requested constantly at our salon.

Oval

Like almond but less tapered, no point. Slightly wider at the tip. Very natural-looking. Works well for clients transitioning from short to longer nails because the oval shape makes shorter nails look proportional.

Squoval

Square shape with softened corners. The practical middle ground between square and oval. Less prone to corner snags than square. More definition than oval. Popular with clients who want clean edges but not sharp ones.

Stiletto

Aggressive taper to a sharp point. Maximum elongation. Requires longer nails and is best executed on gel, acrylic, or extensions rather than natural nails. Dramatic, editorial, not suited for hands-on work.

Which shape is right for your hands?

Short fingers with wide nail beds look best in oval or almond, which add the illusion of length. Long fingers with narrow nail beds can carry square or coffin without the shape looking overwhelming. Wide nail beds generally support any shape. Short nail beds limit how much taper is visible. Your technician will tell you this before we file anything, because once we file past a certain point, we cannot add length back.

Your Appointment, Step by Step

1

Hand assessment and shape selection

We look at your finger length, nail bed width, and nail condition. We recommend a shape or confirm the one you want. Either way, we agree on the shape before we start.

2

Reference nail first

We shape the most consistent nail on your dominant hand first. This becomes the reference point that every other nail is matched to.

3

Full set shaping

Each nail filed to match the reference nail. Consistent length, consistent shape, consistent free edge across all ten nails.

4

Final check

We review the set together before you leave. If anything is off, we address it before you walk out.

Sound Like You?

1Your nails are all different shapes after growing out or after a previous service. You want them consistent and even before applying polish or getting your next service.
2You want to try a new shape but are not sure which one suits your hand type. You want a professional recommendation, not just whatever is trending on social media.
3You are getting a manicure or another nail service and want the shaping done by someone who knows what they are doing, not rushed through as a formality.

Nail Shaping in Hialeah, FL

We see every nail shape trend come through our Hialeah salon. Coffin and almond are the most requested right now. Classic square and oval never stop being asked for. Squoval is popular with clients who want clean edges without sharp corners.

Our technicians use a dominant-hand reference technique: we shape the strongest, most consistent nail on your dominant hand first, then match every other nail to that reference point. This is how you get a consistent set across all ten nails, not just nails that look individually correct but do not match each other.

We are at 7755 W 4th Ave, Suite 105. Walk-ins welcome. See our full nail salon service menu.

Nail Shaping FAQ

How much does nail shaping cost?

We do not publish prices online. You get the exact number before we start. Call (786) 407-9052 or come in and ask.

What nail shape is best for my hands?

It depends on your finger length, nail bed width, and current nail length. Short fingers with wide nail beds look best in oval or almond. Long fingers with narrow nail beds can carry coffin or square. Wide nail beds support most shapes. Short nail beds limit how much taper is visible. Your technician will tell you this before we file anything.

How long does nail shaping take?

About 15 minutes as a standalone service. If nail shaping is part of a longer service, the timing is folded into the full appointment.

Can I get nail shaping without a full manicure?

Yes. Nail shaping is available as a standalone service. You do not need to book a full manicure. Come in, get the shape you want, walk out.

How often do I need nail shaping?

Depends on how fast your nails grow. Most clients who maintain a specific shape come in every two to three weeks for a shape refresh alongside their regular nail service. If you are just fixing uneven nails from growing out, once is often enough to reset the shape.

What if I am not happy with the shape?

Tell us before you leave. We can adjust before you walk out. After you leave, our 5-day satisfaction policy applies. Come back within 5 days and we make it right at no charge.
